Situated in the tidal wetlands of Salem New Jersey, Mannington Mills has been manufacturing flooring for over 100 years. This company has survived through four generations to the successful company they are today. With a forward thinking approach to sustainability, they have invested their money into many projects which prevent the polluting of air, land or water from their operations, to reduce their footprint on the environment.
Our design project was initiated by their company, working with Habitat by Design, out of the continued desire to be known for their awareness of environmental impact through the public perception of the landscape. From the main road, we introduced pristine meadows to the entrance drive, past the ball fields, and marshes, winding into the site. The Corporate Headquarters building entrance was designed to emulate native plant communities from the piedmont to the tidal marsh. Complete with sound effects, the experience includes a recirculating stream across an artistic expression of a waterway made of recycled blue glass concrete pavers, flowing through the tidal marsh plantings to the actual marsh onsite. This company holds to its commitment to environmental sensitivity installing houses for Purple Martins, honeybee colonies and utilizing over 3.3 acres of solar panels for their energy needs.
